Gluten-Free Fried Bannock Biscuits---

Bannocks originated in Scotland and are a pan-fried biscuit dough fried in oil. My Grandmother made them...and they were called fried biscuits. Whatever you call them (biscuit heaven), the end result is a really flavorful, soft middle with a delicious, crispy crust on the outside. They are fabulous slathered in butter and fig jam, or heavy cream and honey.

Let's make some gluten-free fried bannock biscuits!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 cups all purpose gluten-free flour (we used Our House Deliciously Gluten Free all purpose flour)
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • oil for frying

DIRECTIONS:

  • In a large mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, and melted butter. Mix thoroughly. Form into a ball of dough and knead until mixture is completely mixed.

  • Form into palm sized flat biscuits.

  • Heat oil in a large frying pan on medium heat, gently place biscuits in oil and cook until done on one side, then flip (gently) to the other side and continue to cook until both sides are golden brown. Remove from heat and serve immediately
